Astley Castle Novr. 9th 1830
Dear Sir,
I rejoice that you think of proposing yourself as a successor to the late Mr. Wm. Peircy. I am so convinced that your services will be for the advantage of the Charity, that I shall certainly forward your appointment as far as I can- I think you had better make Personal Application to the Governors, and be prepared with Testimonials from your Employers.
I certainly can with great Pleasure and the Greatest Truth say I have always had reason to be most perfectly satisfied with your conduct in every respect during the long Period upwards 30 years you have been consulted and Employed both by my Father and myself, and it is but justice to add that we have had Ample Experiance both at Hallam & here of your judgment & knowledge as a Valuer of Land, Timber & Collierys as well as the management of Farms & Buildings &c.
