Dear Sir,
I regret that by your letter of Saturday you should propose to resign the Agency of the estate so suddenly - I told you more than a year ago, that I intended to resume a more active control over the management of this estate than I have for some years exercised and this the pressure the times absolutely requires-
I found that you did not propose any tenants, whom you could recommend, for the three farms at Astley, which will be vacant at Lady Day, I, therefore, applied to Mr. Pridmore, as a person likely to find tenants for these farms, and authorized him to advertize them-
The saw mill was erected cheifly with a view to the requirements of the Colliery - those of the estate could not find it adequate employment I, therefore placed it under Mr. Kydd's control - he informed me, that keeping the staff with insufficient employment must entail continual loss - I understand, that he mentioned this to you - I, therefore, authorized him to close the Mill until adequate employment can be found for it, or some other arrangement can be made - I am glad, that you intend to receive the rents on Thursday, and have no wish to urge your being present at the tenant's dinner, if doing so would be disagreeable to you.
I need hardly mention, that to propose finally to throw up the Agency of an Estate at less than a week's notice would be an unusual step, one that I, certainly, have not requested you to take - I will arrange to be here on Wednesday night and shall hope to see you at 10/30 A.M. on Thursday morning, if I cannot arrange to see you earlier-
I remain Dear Sir,
Yours sincerely
C.N. Newdegate
