| Description | This section comprises mainly of the records of the surveyors of the highways inherited by the Board in 1864, for each of the constituent parishes or hamlets within its jurisdiction. The act of 25 & 26 Vict. cap. 61 (1862) empowered the justices by order of the quarter sessions to group parishes into Highway Districts. Thus the parochial records are listed first, followed by a few financial records of the Board itself. Most of the Board's internal records passed to the County Council files and are listed elsewhere (CR 442/1-15). |
