AdminHistoryThe gift of the living of Tanworth and much of the land in the parish was gifted to William Pitt by his father (also William Pitt), the first Earl of Amherst and his mother Sarah Archer who was one of the daughters of the last in the male line of the Archer family to own the ancestral home of Umberslade. The younger Pitt suceeded to the title of Viscount Holmesdale in 1926 upon his father's elevation to an Earldom.
