DescriptionThe order of entries (and details of other inclusions) is as follows: memoranda, on the front pastedown, re a "Measure of ye Glebe land" (fields and acreages), 1727-8, (with a separate note on the reckoning of the churchyard), re the charitable bequest of 20s. by Robert Stratford, gent., (buried 30 Apr 1615) to be given in bread to the poor of Ansley (besides other gifts to the church), a note of which was written "over the Chancel Door before Mr. Stratford whitewash'd it, abt. 1736..." and re an inscription over the communion table; marriages, 1711-1754; extract from the minutes of the verdict of the Court Baron and Court of Survey of John Ludford, esq., lord of the manors of Ansley, "Brets Hall" and "Monwode" (in the parish of Ansley) held at the "Manor House.., the sign of the Rose at Ansley Church End" (21 May 1789) giving a list of pews (numbered) and of the names of tenants of freeholders in each place in the pews (8 pages) including references to the "Gallery pulled down"; baptisms, 1711-1784 (including, within, a note of the induction of Thomas Ebdell, rector of Caldecote, as vicar); memorandum of birth of triplets (all died within the month) to Charles and Elizabeth Nixon, 12 March 1798; tables of numbers of baptisms, marriages and burials in the parish for every year, 1637-1799/1800/1801-20/1821/1822; burials, 1711-1779 (including, within, memoranda re mortuaries, funeral fees and some causes of death e.g. mining accident, smallpox, drowning of an infant (includes name of coroner, 1769); terriers, 1762/3 (with alterations re a road, 1774) and 1775 (1779 and 1783); MS obituary, on last leaf, to Cotterell, vicar of Polesworth (vicar of Ansley for 30 years "and a great Benefactor to the House, Garden and Glebe.." (25 Jan 1747) and a note re Moses, his son, instituted to the living of Ansley in 1771 and buried in the chancel vault in 1774; memorandum, on the end pastedown, re a writing over the chancel door relating to Robert Stratford (see above) and list of "Church Yard Mounds" (10 Apr 1744) "Beginning at J. Ludford's House-End [and finishing at] J. Goldsby's House end" Listing names (of ?owners) and respective yardage, ?reserved grave space register.
