| Description | Although this register has the title "St. Marys Church Compton Wynyates" on the outer cover, it appears to be quite obvious, from internal evidence (name of rector, number of marriages, the fact that the dedication of Compton Wyniates church is unknown), that it relates to Tysoe, the marriage register of which for this period is otherwise missing. The error may be due to a slip of the pen when writing the name (much later) on the outer cover or confusion may have arisen from a marriage entered on the inside of the front cover. It seems unlikely that this marriage relates to the parish of Tysoe, yet the rector of Compton Wyniates from 1730, or earlier, to 1764 or 1765 was Samuel Seagrave, and no rector of the name `John Jameson' is known for this parish. |
