Moreton, who, in his younger days worked down the long since closed Stanley’s Pit for three years, today paid his first visit to a modern mine at Haunchwood Colliery. This picture shows him just before going down the pit with Mr. A.A. Arnell, Nuneaton’s Head Post Master (extreme right), who went down a mine for the first time, Mr. L. Smith, No. 3 Group Area Manager, and Mr. S.V. Sheasby, Area Staff training Officer. The party spent about two hours down the mine, visiting a conventional coal face, looking at the modern machinery and chatting to workers. |
