Description | The Carnival Queen was Miss Mary Haynes, a shop assistant, of [address removed] Nuneaton. There were five Maids of Honour – Miss Phylis Gibbs (Chief Maid), who was last year’s (1931) Carnival Queen, Miss Dorothy Widdis, Miss Vera Cox, Miss Iris Barratt and Miss Fannie Timmins, also eight drummer girls in red coats and cream trousers. The Carnival Queen was in a gown of white satin, with a train of orange and ermine, and the Maids of Honour wore dresses of buttercup yellow with halo headdresses, green satin shoes, and carried muffs of apple green. The Carnival was held in glorious summer weather. |
