DescriptionThe cinema was built through the enterprise of Mr Eric Roberts, who ran the furnishing firm in Queen’s Road, Nuneaton, and was built by Messrs. Wykes and Truswell of Nuneaton. The architect was Mr Mayo. Later re-named the ‘Regal’, the cinema was destroyed by a German land-mine on the night of November 14 1940 - the night of the Coventry blitz. (See also Negative No. 7881)
The ceremony was carried out by the Mayor and Mayoress of Nuneaton, Alderman and Mrs. Pembleton. Photographs show:- Back row (L to R): Mr. Fred Roberts (Senr), Alderman Pembleton (Mayor), Mr. Eric Roberts and Mr Erle Roberts. Middle row (L to R): Mrs Fred Roberts, Mrs Pembleton (Mayoress), Mrs Eva Roberts (Eric’s wife), Mrs L Burbridge (nee Roberts), Mrs Erle Roberts and Mr Cyril Roberts. The young girl at front of group is Joan Roberts (later Mrs Beers).
