DescriptionThis includes a terrier of the glebe lands in Lower Shuckburgh belonging to the vicar of Priors Hardwick "as allotted and set out by the Commissioners for Inclosing the said Fields" [Act 1778] in lieu of tithes and the glebe previously dispersed in open and common fields; note of surplice fees due to the vicar; copy of Notice re vestry meeting to consider rebuilding the chancel, 20 Nov 1862, and statement of accounts for the same, 1864; memorandum of vestry meeting re the cutting down of an elm by the parish clerk, William Piercey, on the portion of glebe land occupied by him as a garden, 4 Apr 1877 (and see enclosures); fuller minutes of vestry meetings re, inter alia, the Main Road Act and lighting the church stove, 1878-1880; Agreement made at a Special Vestry meeting for taking down part of the tower and rebuilding it and rehanging the bells, 19 May 1829; list of the quality of the lands at the inclosure of the Open Fields with occupiers names, n.d.
Also enclosed: papers relating to the Piercey affair, including, copy of minutes of vestry meeting, 4 Apr 1877 (DR0475/1), copies of notice from John Worthington, vicar, to Piercey to deliver up possession of the piece of glebe ground, 5 Apr 1877, and to cease cutting the elm (or any other tree), 31 Mar 1877 (DR0475/2-3) and correspondence from S. Kingsford, vicar, to Piercey re tree cutting, 17 Oct 1881 (DR0475/4).
