With 14 double-page watercolour plans designed to scale; and 13 smaller sectional plans in watercolour, two of which are signed by James Potter and dated 1829 and 1830, loosely inserted. Very large folio. Marbled boards, with leather spine and corners, very worn and lower cover detached.
From the collection of Sir William Cubitt, F.R.S., who constructed the Oxford Canal in 1830. The two plans signed by James Potter are: Section of Proposed line of Canal from the Coventry to Oxford Canal, and Brinklow Hill, Easenhall Valley and Waltons Hill. Some of the other places mentioned are: Johnson's Hill, Newbold Hill, Caldicotts Hill, River Swift Valley, Smeatons Valley and Brays Valley. These fine and detailed plans are obviously based on careful surveys of James Potter.
