DescriptionGordon joined the Madras Army as a cadet in 1825. He held mainly administrative roles in the army, becoming Deputy Assistant Adjutant General in 1838, then Assistant Adjutant in 1845 and finally Adjutant General of the Madras Army in 1853.

NB. It is unclear why this order is with the letter and there may be no link to the Grantham Scott family.
