AdminHistoryMiddlefield Hospital, formerly the Midland Counties Idiot Asylum, grew out of a small private asylum established by Miss Anne Darke at Dorridge Grove in 1866. The first patients were elected to the former institution in 1868, new buildings were opened in 1874 and in 1948 the National Health Service assumed responsibility for the hospital. It closed on 15th March 1992.
