TitleLetter from Anna Eliza Jarrett to her brother Thomas Wathen Waller
Date5 Jun 1834
DescriptionWritten from 9 Norfolk Street, to the British Embassy, Constantinople.
Absence of husband John at Stockbridge [for fishing]: thanks for two letters: affirmation of her continually thinking and praying for him: her husband, not strong but "set up" by his Stockbridge trip: her portrait now finished, said by everybody else to be wonderfully like her without being flattering, father being the only one to find fault with it: dispatch of West Indian sweetmeats to him: royal party on the 3rd, with the King and Queen arriving at 5 o'clock, her office being to receive the evening party: father hitting his face against a chandelier and being knocked down: Sainsburys expected on Monday, prospect of races at Ham on Wednesday and dining at Pope's Villa on Friday, including the Reptons, Mrs Nutcombe (a very nice person) and the Wises: Louisa very pretty and ladylike, but no indication from either side as to their inclinations: Camerton going well, with half of old house pulled down, being prepared for their reception in July: visit to see the beautiful carpet at London docks: attending St Paul's with the Dean of Hereford and being greatly moved by seeing and hearing children of four London national schools: rarely going out in the evenings.
2 sheets, with 7 pages of text, including cross-hatching of page 5. Numbered "24".
