Date14 Aug 1834
DescriptionWritten from York Crescent, Clifton, to the British Legation, Napoli di Romania, Greece.
Staying with Stephen [Jarrett], having spent a week at Camerton: husband satisfactory in health, but failing in strength when over-exerted, as in shooting: delight at new house, going to be comfortable and cheerful: visit to Thornbury Castle (yesterday), then plans to go to Blaize Castle, Clevedon, Dunster, Minehead, Lynton, Valley of Stones, Hereford, Clifton and Chepstow in rest of month: strong attachment of Stephen to his brother: Wathen's writing of last letter in French as a caprice: her pleasure at his giving up snuff, something she can never urge her husband to do without provoking his anger: father more comfortable: it being her first letter addressed to the Secretary of Legation in Greece, with congratulations and best wishes: hopes for any unfavourable first impressions to be removed on better acquaintance, as happened with herself, as Wathen had disliked her once upon a time: no news of Ernest, but aunt Stephens well: awaiting instructions on her painting.
