27 Nov: Ernest having received a letter from him, with the good news of his recovering health and strength: her approval of his plan is to stay until the spring, even if it means a delay of 6 months for her: father hurting his knee while nursing Lady Howe (after a bad fall), now having three absesses there and in great pain: their setting off for Tachbrook on the 4th, visiting Mr Barnard in Staffordshire with Ernest (including sport for the men), and returning to Offchurch, to a very cheerful household: future travel plans to Staffordshire then on to Yorkshire to stay with the Gooches, Annie not having seen John since his illnesses nor he two of her children: her consultation with Dr Jephson and changes to her diet, "every thing being forbidden but beef, mutton, game and poultry", eating them 3 times a day, with a walk before breakfast, taking the shower bath and "Steel & Sulphuric Acid enough to poison a parish": diagnosis of Dr Jephson on husband John that the fault is only in the stomach (not the head) and there has been too much bleeding, etc: all well in Froyle: best wishes from family. 28 Nov: good news from Mr Baillie about father having had absess opened by Mr Brodie and being more comfortable: uncle Joseph there and promising to write soon.
