Date15 Jan 1841
DescriptionWritten from 8 New Cavendish Street, London.
Sight of her children in the nursery on the Wednesday [13th]: the elder one, Birdie, being shy at first, possibly because of her mother's crying, not wanting to leave her for the rest of the day: description of Birdie, having a cough and not being well, needing country air, and being quieter: description of the baby, not as pretty in her mother's eyes: almost a shock to see the "sweet, bouncing babe" as her own, after only seen her twice and being in confinement and seriously ill: thanks and praise to God for his blessings to her: amazement of all at her being so strong, with only a little tiredness: the week at Richmond having done her good and been a happy one for her and her husband, like a honeymoon: the christening to be on the 21st, with the name of Emily: account of Wathen's family, but with news from father of a domestic fracas: prospect of losing her own maid, the "ancient Bevan", who, with eyesight failing and fear of not being able to do her duties, felt obliged to accept the offer of marriage by a Mr Swindell, at 57 aged 10 years older, with £300pa. PS news from Lady Nicolson of praise of Wathen by Sir Adam Drummond.
