TitleHighways
DescriptionThe collation into one class of the various documents in the Quarter Sessions Records relating to the upkeep etc. of the highways would not be practicable without sub-ordinating other equally interesting subjects. The earliest references to the repair and maintenance of the highways are contained in the Quarter Sessions Minute and Order Books (Classes 41 and 42); Class 84 supplies details of Turnpike Trusts Accounts that are available and (apart from the Writ of Ad quod damnum of 1777 contained in this class) the details of records of the diversion and stopping-up of highways are given in Class 47. Records of the Highway Boards whose functions were later taken over by the County Council are filed in Room B.10 as County Council Records.
