TitleRoll of Honour
Date1915-1923
DescriptionDonated by Mrs Ellick in memory of her son Charles, whose name appears on the roll. The first roll was presented in November 1915, the second in August 1916 after the first was filled up. The original scrolls were purchased from Mowbray's (see the 'Parish Magazine of Burton Dassett et al'.). The scrolls were subsequently cut and pasted, the entries re-arranged in alphabetical order, thus destroying information about the order in which men volunteered or enlisted. The parish magazine suggests that this was undertaken in September 1923 by the Rev. Guernsey Walsingham Webb, a local schoolmaster, after which the two rolls were hung in the church. There are bills and receipts for the the cost of framing and fixing the rolls under glass - 11s and 9s 6d respectively (see churchwardens' accounts and vouchers, DR 212).
