Description | Letter (341/91), written from Hanover, addressed to Phippy: receipt of letter from Mrs Bankes informing him of the melancholy event that had taken place in his family [the death of Waller's son, Ernest Adolphus, on 20 April 1845], confirmed by a letter from his sister: his sincere sympathies, knowing what a devoted father he was to all his children: although no words of condolence able to cure grief and misery, there being a sort of alleviation and soothing to the mind to know of friends are anxious to prove their friendship: religion in the end being the only true support on such an occasion: as a truly religious man Waller knowing of the Almighty always acting for our best and for submission to his will: remembrances to his eldest son and daughters, who, he understands, are with him.
