| Description | The 2nd Earl of Bolingbroke married in November 1654 Frances, daughter of William Cavendish, 1st Duke of Newcastle, by his first wife Elizabeth. Sir Egerton Leigh who married Theodosia Boughton, was the great-grandson of the Rev. Peter Leigh, M.A. Vicar of Great Budworth, Cheshire, who married Elizabeth, 2nd daughter of the Hon. Thomas Egerton of Tatton Park, Cheshire, 3rd son of the 2nd Earl of Bridgewater, by his wife Elizabeth, sister of the Frances who married the 2nd Earl of Bolingbroke, so through this family connection the plan of Lydiard Park was acquired, probably by the Rev. Peter Leigh.
