Description | Between Benjamin Hector of Atherstone, surgeon; Mary Grimley of Austrey, spinster and Elizabeth Grimley of Austrey, spinster, the only two daughters and heiresses of John Grimley, late of Austrey, yeoman, deceased; and William Baker of Grendon, gentleman. In a lease and release of 20-21 Feb 1800 between Mary Grimley of Austrey, spinster, devisee of a piece of land called Little Moor Meadow, named in the will of her grandfather William Robotham of Austrey, yeoman, deceased, and one of the co-heiresses of her late sister Anne Grimley of Austrey, spinster, who died intestate and without issue, of a parcel of land called the moors piece; Elizabeth Grimley of Austrey, sister of Mary and Anne Grimley, and the other co-heiress of the piece of land called the Moors Piece; and Benjamin Hector; Mary Grimley and Elizabeth Grimley mortgaged the properties to Benjamin Hector [mortgagee] for £100. In another lease and release of 29-30 Apr 1790 [see 01526/4/1] , between John Grimley and Richard Weaver of Atterton, Leics, gentleman, other lands were mortgaged to Richard Weaver [mortgagee] for £120, and John Grimley borrowed a further £60 on 7 Apr 1792. A lease and release of 4-5 Apr 1805, between Charles Weaver of Atterton, esquire, only son and heir of Richard Weaver, deceased; Mary Grimley, Elizabeth Grimley and Benjamin Hector, Charles Weaver mortgaged properties to Benjamin Hector for £180, and £20 was also paid to Mary Grimley (bringing the total mortgage to £200). Benjamin Hector decided to call in the mortgages of £100 and £200 (a total of £300), therefore in this present indenture Benjamin Hector assigns the mortgages to William Baker. The lands mortgaged were two closes of land in Austrey, one of which is called Moors Piece, containing 2 1/2 acres, and the other is called Little Moor Meadow, containing 1 1/2 acres, which were previously occupied by William Robotham, and were upon the inclosure of the open and common fields of Austrey and awarded by the Commissioners of the inclosure to William Robotham in lieu of part of his estate in the fields, which he devised to his daughter, Mary, wife of John Grimley, in his will, thereafter to his granddaughter, Ann Grimley (since deceased) and then to his other granddaughter Mary; a close of arable land in a field in Austrey called Twycross Way Field, containing 3 acres with Shutting glebe land, occupied by William Fisher, on the north side, the land of Mrs Moore, occupied by Hugh Stanton, on the east side, another part of Shuttington glebe land and the land of Mary Earp on the south side, and the land lately belonging to Richard Weaver, occupied by [...] Bird, other lands lately belonging to John Grimley and charity lands occupied by Simon Walker on the west side; four lands in the same field (Twycross Way Field) abutting the close previously described on the east side, the lands of Simon Walker on the south side, and three other lands of Mary Grimley and Elizabeth Grimley on the west side, and a close lately belonging to Richard Weaver, now in the possession of Henry Bird on the north side; three short lands lying at the bottom of the four lands previously described, with the road lying on the west side; a meadow called Red Meadow in Austrey, containing 2 acres 2 roods, with the land of Richard Weaver, in the possession of Henry Bird, lying on the east side, the close called the Bull Piece on the south-east side, the land belonging to [...] Hill of Thorpe, occupied by Edward Skellet on the south-west side and the land of William Hill of Leicester, occupied by Joseph Elton on the north-west side, and which was awarded to John Grimley by the Commissioners of Inclosure in lieu of other lands in the open and common fields of Austrey belonging to him; also lands in mentioned in the lease and release of 4-5 Apr 1805 [not extant]; and all other lands in Austrey belonging to Mary Grimley and Elizabeth Grimley which were mortgaged by them to Benjamin Hector or which John Grimley, their father, may have been entitled to purchase from Thomas Sheldon and Mary his wife, Joseph Sheldon and Ann his wife, and William Sheldon.
