Description"The proctor churchwarden there", to Thomas Jowling, clerk, rector of Alcester, William Gibbs, baker, the other bailiff, Richard Dod the other churchwarden, and twelve other [named] inhabitants, of 2 closes called the Moores in the tenure of James Spilsbury, formerly part of the common but long since inclosed for the use of the parish on the north side of the town, a close called Hawes's Close in the tenure of Thomas Hunt adjoining a tenement in Priory Lane "wherein the poor of the said parish are placed rent free", and 1 selion of arable next but one to the said close also in the tenure of Thomas Hunt, in trust to raise money from the same by mortgage or otherwise, in order to pay money due to workmen employed on the church and to rebuild the churchyard wall. [indorsed in a later hand]:
"This deed is totally a void instrument, the parties granting not having a competent int'[rest] to grant, etc., and consequently the mortgage tho' only for a term of 21 years, was void - but as the money was paid off within the term thats out of the question. W.F." [probably William Farr].
