Description | Dr. Parr (1747-1825: see D.N.B. Vol. XV pp. 356-364), perpetual curate of Hatton 1785-1825, started the book which was to be "kept by the Churchwardens....[and] seen and preserved by my executors" who were instructed to examine regularly and repair the Church windows and renew the turf land under the bells (31 Jul 1810). It contains references to Parr's personal donations and legacies, his ministry at Hatton, his "pupils and friends" and to the trustees of Mrs. Throckmorton's Charity which Parr managed for a time and used "in greatly improving and ornamenting the Church at Hatton". The book includes memoranda and accounts re the Old and New Bells (accounts of their repairs, notes of their inscriptions, weights etc., details of recasting and enlarging); copy of Agreement for a New peal of Bells with lists of subscribers or benefactors; declaration and memoranda re the new clock and work by Mr. Oldham, the clockmaker; accounts, particulars and instructions re additional decorations for the Communion Table (includes references to chandelier, chancel windows, church plate - silver chased ewer and dish - and an edition of the Church homilies). Enclosed: MS. notes by Parr of a piece in the London Gazette (12 Feb 1820) recording a meeting of the King in Council, 17 Feb 1820 and a debate in the House of Commons (20 Jan 1821), 5 Feb 1821, re amendments in the Prayer Book and litany re omission of Queen Caroline's name from the litany and prayer for the royal family (DR0476/10/1). |
