DescriptionDeed of grant with quitclaim from Waleran, Earl of Warwick, to Alan his cook, son of Alan the cook, of all right and claim to the office of the kitchen in the household, which office Alan the father held from the former Earl, William, all that land called Wodelowe, with all appurtenances, and a virgate of land [c30 acres] in Cota [Woodcote] with all other lands which Alan the father held in the Earl's borough of Warwick and beyond, with clauses of warranty and sealing.
Witnesses: William de Arden, William de Bissopesdon, Baldwin Poerio, William de Davull, Walter de Cormail, Henry Revel, Hamon son of Hamon, Gerard, cook, John de Esefeld, Roger son of Godwin, Robert, kinsman of the earl, Jordan, clerk, John clerk and many others.

Endorsed with brief title description in later hands, number "W.3" in ink, and note "1c see p6 of MS book" in pencil.
Seal: missing, stumps of tongues remain.
[The deed was drawn up after the accession of Walerand to the Earldom in 1184 and his death in 1204.]

RelatedMaterialAn 18th century transcription of this grant is copied in CR 26/3, a manuscript book belonging to Henry Wise in 1741. The book records that it once had the Earl's seal, "mouldered away in the bag", attached by a tongue, the stump of which is all that is left.
