DescriptionIndenture of deed to make a tenant to the precipe for the suffering of a recovery, between Sir John Bale of Carlton Curlieu, Leicestershire, knight and baronet, and Dame Jane his wife, daughter and heir of Sir Thomas Puckeringe late of the Priory in or near Warwick, of the 1st part [to be vouchees], Edward Grosvenor of St Martin in the Fields, Middlesex, esquire, John Rushworth of Lincolns Inn, Middlesex, esquire, and John Carell of Lower Harting, Sussex, esquire, of the 2nd part [to be tenants to the precipe], and Hugh Woodward of St Martin in the Fields, Middlesex, gent, and Robert Cordwell, citizen and goldsmith of London, of the 3rd part [to be demandants], of the manor of the Priory near the borough of Warwick, with its capital messuage, several closes of land , gardens, chief rents, messuages (c45), etc at Warwick, Tachbrook and Startford upon Avon, the manor of Lillington, with its capital messuage, gardens, closes of lands, etc and the rectory and advowson of the church at Lillington, the manor of Northbrooks, with its manor house, closes of land, etc, including land at Snitterfield [all the above properties being described in much fuller detail], with provision for the levy of a fine as well, for the use of Lady Jane Bale and Sir John Bale.
Dated 16 Jan 1650 [likely to be 1651 by modern calendar, possibly confirmed by endorsement].
Seals: five, for John Bale, John Rushworth, John Caryll, Hugh Woddward and John Cordell, still mostly intact but worn, attached by tags, with two for Jane Bale and Edward Grosvenor missing from their tags.
Endorsed as being a deed of uses upon the suffering a recovery by Lady Bale of the Priory and other lands in Warwickshire "bearing date 16 Jan 1651", also with number "13" in ink.
