DescriptionIndentures of lease and release by Sir William Throckmorton of Putney, Surrey, knight, Marshall of His Majesty's Household, to Dame Margaret Browne, late wife of Sir George Browne, knight, deceased, Sir Walter Littleton, knight, doctor of law and chancellor of Litchfeild, and Clement Throckmorton of Haseley, esquire, of a capital messuage called Charlwood Place with land (300 acres), other closes of lands (40 and a half acres) and a farm (2 acres) in Charlewood, a capital messuage called Horsehills with land (80 acres), a messuage called Graces with land (45 acres) and a coppice wood called Row Garden Coppice (12 acres) in Horley, and a barn called Wovers Barne with land (60 acres), several closes of land (45 acres) and a messuage called Carters Tenement and land (72 acres) in Charlewood and Horley, Surrey, to the uses of Sir William Throckmorton, after his death to his wife Dame Elizabeth Throckmorton, and after her death to Sir William Throckmorton the son and heir apparent and his male heirs, reciting the lease for a year of the day before, the marriage of Sir William Throckmorton the son and Dame Elizabeth as his wife, an indenture of 27 Feb 1662 between the parties as above, in which Sir William the father covenants to purchase within a year laying out £3000 to provide portions of £1000 for the eldest daughter and £500 each for the younger children, and that Sir William has purchased lands far exceeding the value of £3000.
