DescriptionCharter of John, abbot, and the convent of Egleston [Egglestone] granting the appointment of a secular chaplain to say matins and vespers in the church of Bolton near Ellerton or in the chapel of Ellerton near Bolton in the wapentake of Gilling and the county of Richmondshire, according to the use of the archdeaconry of Richmond and according to the choice of lord Harsculph de Cleseby and for the souls of lord Harsculph de Cleseby, lord Thomas de Rychemond and their ancestors and successors, in consideration of 100 marks paid by Harsculph, for which the abbot and convent bind themselves and their successors, lands, rents, possessions and goods in their lands and holdings at Scytheby, Staynwegges, Bruntonnear Scytheby and Stretford, with provision for the payment of 5 marks back to Harsculph or his successors for every half year in which the chantries stop.
Witnesses: William le Scrop, Henry le Scrop, Richard de Berningham, Adam de Nairford, Matthew de Midelton, John de Hertford, Thomas de Apilgarth, Henry de Mersk', William de Mersk' and others.
Dated at Eggelston, 4 Ides of April 27 Edw son of Hen].
Endorsed as being a charter of the chantry of Ellerton, with number "32" in ink.
Seal: of the abbot and convent, vesica-shaped, brown, attached by tag.
