Description | Counterpart indenture of lease by Sir Thomas Puckeringe of the Priory in or near Warwick, knight and baronet, and his trustees William Vyner, gent, George Weale, gent, Humfrey Kerby, gent, William Harmar, woollen draper, and Roger Edes, apothecary, all of the town of Warwick, of the 1st part, to Richard Palmer of the town of Warwick, shoemaker, of the 2nd part, of a tenement in the Rother Cheaping in Warwick (one of three newly built tenements, adjoining that of Richard Hadley), to be held for a term of 21 years [no annual rent stated], provided Palmer takes on Richard Yepp, son of William Yepp, as his first apprentice for 7 years, and then two other apprentices in turn for further periods of 7 years, as nominated by Sir Thomas or, after his death, by his daughter Jane, and teaches and instructs them in his trade as a shoemaker: it is recited that Sir Thomas by a deed of feoffment of 20 Apr 9 Chas [1633] had conveyed to the trustees as above (also including Thomas Gibbes, esquire, since deceased) three messuages, one in the Walditch and two in Rother Cheaping (where Frances Shore and Alice Ryland, both widows, lately dwelt), to build six new tenements, and that three new tenements had been built out of the messuages in the Rother Cheaping and were intended to be used to house tradesmen of Warwick and their apprentices. 1 May 12 Chas 1636 Seal: for Richard Palmer, partially damaged, attached by tag. |
