In the first third in the book are pasted letters, extracts from letters, envelopes with names and addresses, and autographs, some items having dates, which cover the period 1813-1870, including quotation from the Bible on card sent by Queen Dowager Adelaide (1841), letter from Palmerston to W Waller, 15 Aug 1844), note by Duke of Wellington (2 Oct 1837), letter from Ernest, Duke of Cumberland [to Strangford], 13 May 1837), a brief, undated note from Tennyson (to Moxon), part of envelope addressed to Sir W Waller from Princess Sophia when nearly blind, examples of handwriting of political figures, members of the nobility, bishops and authors, and the photograph of an unidentifed young man: the remaining two-thirds of the book contain newpaper cuttings and ephemera, relating to George Wise, dated c1858-1876, including four humourous sketches of a journey in Scotland, a pencil sketch imagining him falling over when being presented to the Queen and Prince Albert at Stoneleigh [probably 1858], cuttings on agricultural topics, parliamentary elections (in which he was standing, 1868), dinners and events at which he spoke or sang, and foxhunting.
