Description | Written from St James. The King asking him to thank him for his letter, not having time to write himself, with observation of his being "a kind affectionate creature": his having read the letter himself with great satisfaction and a sense of his honest and honourable character: his admonition having been not ill received or ignored: there having been occasional but no lasting excitement, much being to do with doing honour to the King of Wurtemburg and the novelty of the situation: his having spoken once or twice to checking any exuberance of action: the kind reception of what he had said: the King's heart and intentions being kind and just, but the mind not always equally balanced, with his not being apprehensive except for making long and unsuitable speeches: his not having said so much on the delicate subject, if the King had not given him Sir Jonathan's letter to answer: their both being "Labourers in the same Vineyard" Sheet, with 4 pages of text, black-edged. [William I of Wurttemburg (1781-1864), King from 1816.] |
