Just off the trenches without long to write bef roe the mail goes: report of allied forces taking Anapa and capturing merchant vessels and 4 war steamers in the sea of Azov: his bathing in the Tchernaya (with a place in the hills reminding him of the Rhine) and at the Monastery (down a dangerous slope, with potential to fall 200 yards into the sea, worse than in Switzerland): attempts to set fire to the tower with carcases [inflammable shells] failing completely: having to turn in at 12 for parade at 6 in hot weather.
