TitleLetter from George Henry Waller to his father
Date13 Aug 1855
DescriptionWritten from Therapia.
Thanks for his letter of late July: down there for change of air, a delightful place, being able to see the opening of the Bosphorus: unfortunately due to go back to Scutari, to which it is infinitely superior: fear of hardly being strong enough to go back, but hope of getting leave extended from the 20th to the end of the month: supposition of not being able to buy his company until 2 years in the service: going up to see Miss Nightingale and having a bit of a chat: seeing the der Gulens at Pera: meeting with young Ellis (to be remembered from Brussels), ADC to Cunningham and commander of the 1st division of the Turkish contingent: mention of parent's holiday in Spa, Adolphus playing in the Eton cricket match at Lords and sister Anna not growing any more: no news from the Crimea. PS: meeting two alleged acquaintances of his father's, a Mr Havyland, a Queen's messenger (known from before his marriage) met at Pera, and a man at Bugtakin called Major Johnson or Johnston, something to do with the land transport of the Turkish contingent (met in Bruusels).
13 Aug [no year given, but known to be 1855 by context].
Two sheets, with 8 pages of text.
