DescriptionWritten from the Camp before Sebastopol.
South side of Sebastopol having been taken: in part of regiment not engaged except for trench duty: after first failure, most sent home: explosion inside the Redan, with some of their troops on trench guard going in and finding the place evacuated: next morning the palce being all in flame, with magazines and mines blowing up for the greater part of the day: Russian warships, but not steamers, believed to have been blown up in the harbour: 1000 guns captured: the French looting from the town, but the English being told not to: glad to hear of Eddy [cousin Edmund Waller] getting a commission without paying: measure of boots sent before being fine: belief of army taking to the field, but supposition of it not being the Light Division, as nobody left but recruits.
