His being nearly all right again, with better eyesight, and hope of being off the sick list in 2 or 3 days: hard frost, putting an end to riding, but good for walking: games for the men next week, with one prize being a pig with looped tail: rumours of peace in the camp: receipt of maps of the Crimea and Kinburn from Conyngham, a letter from Adolphus, "reinforcements" from mother, and a bill for £1 17s from bookseller in Breton Street, with request by him for more books to be ordered: reminder of his request for books on surveying: excuse of not being able to see straight for his poor handwriting, otherwise being all right in all other respects.
