Date22 Feb 1856
DescriptionReport on the improvement in his health, after a month at the Monastery did him, not only in the appearance of his eye but also his spirits: the weather making it difficult for her to see him as often as she would have liked: his being a great favourite with his neighbours, "a charming gentlemanly ingenuous young man", whom they will find much improved, grown much taller and manly: hope of his return home soon, which would be advisable: his being deemed fit to leave the Monastery: opinion of Dr Jameson of requirement of two years' rest after such an accident, unlikely in a camp environment: George's own consideration of the accident not being serious, but his servant's assessment on the severity of the fall, given the damage to saddle and clothing: the comfort in camp, compared to the hardships at hospital, with poor food, ansence of fuel, with no fire, frozen milk, the PMO walking in his greatcoat and fur cap to keep warm (the fault of his own managment and not of Sir John Hall): nurses at Balaklava living in comfort and ease without the work of last summer: milder weather: thanks for his kind interest in her affairs: keeping up of insurance in light of probable return home to Brussels.
