Receipt of his letter yesterday and his pleasure in laying it before the Duke of Cambridge, bearing honorable testimony to his son's conduct and gallantry from one of the most distinguished officers of the Crimean army: the Duke's reading it and authorising him to send it to the Committee to which all recommendations for the Victoria Cross have been referred, remaining on record among the testimonials of what were considered the most striking acts of individual gallantry performed during the war.
