DescriptionBetween John Greene of Farnborough, shoemaker, Elizabeth Bentley of Little Kington, spinster and William Holbech of Farnborough, gent. William Hickson of Farnborough, tallow chandler, son and heir of Richard Hickson, late of Farnborough, shepherd (deceased); Mary Hickson of Farnborough, widow of Richard Hickson; mortgaged, by an indenture of lease and release dated 20 December 1682, a messuage inhabited by William and Mary Hickson and a close adjoining the messuage, in Farnborough, purchased by Richard Hickson (deceased) from High Birch and Ursula his wife, to John James of Chipping Warden, Northants, gent, for £40 (demise for 1000 years). The Hicksons defaulted on the mortgage repayment; the mortgage was then assigned to William Jones of Warkworth, Northants, gent and increased to £45 on 20 September1686 and after William Jones' death, the mortgage passed to his heir, John Jones. This present indenture assigned the mortgage to Edward Bentley [new mortgagee] and John Greene [new mortgagor] and increased it to £51 25s. Greene defaulted on the mortgage payment, and after Edward Bentley's death, the Charles Bentley became the new mortgagee. Elizabeth Bentley paid the £50 mortgage owing on the estate and became the new mortgagee to John Greene on 13 April 1706 and this present indenture assigns the mortgage to William Holbech.
