DescriptionFrom James Bernsteide of Greenwich, Kent, yeoman, and John Pilkington of London, gentleman, to Edward Heydon, citizen and Embroiderer of London; the former received by a grant from Queen Elizabeth dated 26th January, 1591, a garden called the Appleyard late in the tenure of Dionise Leventhorpe, and the old scite of the manor called the Hallgarth, in the tenure of Roger Harroppe, sometime demised to Robert Austwick, part of the manor of Townshelf and Carlton, part of the possessions of the ancient Duchy of Lancaster, belonging to the Honor of Pontefract, Yorkshire; and 16 acres of land, formerly in the occupation of John Dicas, parcel of the demesne of Credling, and parcel of the manor of Knottingley belonging to the same honour; and the herbiage of Grove Wood, parcel of the manor of Credling, belonging to the same honour; and 1 tenement in the market place of Pontefract, 1 tenement in Townshelf; 40 acres of land in Darrington, all in the honour of Pontefract, for 21 years. By another indenture dated 26th December 1590, Elizabeth granted the former the fishing in Dove River, parcel of the manor of Marchington, belonging to the honour of Tutbury, Staffs; 27 acres of Parney land demised to Robert Brigge, and 1 parcel of land for making bricks and tile, demised to Hugh Braddock for 21 years, all parcel of the manor of Agardesley, by this indenture the said leases are assigned to Heydon for the residue of the terms. c.
