Description | The group of documents relating to Burisgifford and the document relating to Great Bennfleet, came into the Boughton family with the marriage of Sir William Boughton to Mary Ramsay, daughter of John Ramsey, Alderman of London, in 1684. The Ramsay family had purchased the Manor of Brendishall in 1585 from Baron Rich. At the end of the 17thc. the manor was apparently in dual ownership. In 1681 Henry Herbert and his wife Anne conveyed half the manor to Joseph and Thomas Offley. In 1699 Sir William and Mary conveyed half the manor to Mathew and Robert Skinner. It is probable that Mary and Anne were sisters. |
