| Description | The cottage was originally in the possession of John Lyllyman, shoemaker, of Great Addington who purchased it from the heirs of Margery Curtis. It passed to Thomas Abbott, labourer, of Great Addington who married Frances Lillyman, one of John's daughters and by his son `Thomas Abbott, shepherd', was conveyed with several pieces of land in Mill Field, Stainesborough Field, and Long Row Field, in Great Addington, in 1669, to Francis Chapman of Great Addington, labourer, who married Thomas's kinswoman Eleanor. Eleanor Chapman had already inherited 3 acres of arable land in the aforesaid fields, by the will of his father who had acquired the same from Henry Hemington of Great Addington, yeoman. (It is possible that the lands referred to in the conveyance of 1669 are the aforesaid 3 acres.) In 1708 the 3 acres were conveyed to Robert Lambe of Great Addington by Francis and Eleanor Chapman and their son Thomas, and in 1710, the messuage was also conveyed to Lambe by Eleanor Chapman, now widowed and Richard and Ann Lamb (nee Chapman), of Higham Ferrers, Northants. |
