Description | The plans include a site plan showing the position of a timber bridge and of houses in the town to be demolished for an approach road. The elevations are in some cases alternatives. Details include wooden piling and framework for foundations. One plan is endorsed "Mr Sandby"; Thomas Sandby built a bridge at Staines which was opened in 1796 but collapsed and was removed a few years later. (Some plans watermarked 1781). Note: these plans are said to have been given to one of the Oxford Canal engineers, and have no other connection with the canal |
