TitleFamily settlement: George Mathew the elder of Morecote Hall, gentleman and George Mathew the younger, his son and heir apparent, settled their differences with Goodier Mathewe, second son of George Mathew the younger
Date28 Apr 1605
DescriptionSettlement mediated by Thomas Wrenford of Fayer End, Longdon, Worcs. Esquire. It was agreed that they should levy a fine on the manor of Morecote Hall and lands in Berkswell belonging to the two George Mathews, including those of various named tenants (not described), grounds called the Four Abrahams in Berkswell, a messuage in Meriden, another in Coventry near Hill Crosse, and woods or coppice woods in Allesley and Corley or one of them. The uses of the fine were as follows: the messuages in Berkswell now or late of Leonard Kemberley, Michael Chamberlen and Richard Gardener, the messuages in Meriden and Coventry and the woods in Allesley and Corley, various meadows and woods (named) being part of Joan Smith's tenement, and grounds called Blackfeildes were to go to George Mathew the elder for life and then with the exception of Kemberley's messuage and the Coventry house were to enure to George Mathew the younger forever. The Hill Howse or Mote Howse in Berkswell was to go to George Mathewe the younger in his father's lifetime; afterwards it was with Kemberley's house and the Coventry house to be for the use of Goodier Mathewe and his issue. The manor of Morecote Hall went to George Mathew the younger forever, he paying his father a £20 annuity. The leasehold and customary lands of the manor of Balsall and Allesley held by George Mathew the elder and his wife with remainders to his son and Goodier are to enure to Goodier Mathewe on the death of his grandparents. If Anne, wife of George Mathew the younger, survives his father and her husband and then enters the Mote Howse to the detriment of Goodier Mathewe, then lands of equal value to the Mote House shall be limited to Goodier. 28 Apr, 3 Jas.1 [1605].
Two indentures and two indentures of fine.
