DescriptionRelease between John Walker of Upper Stamford Street, Blackfriars, Surrey, esquire and Mary his wife (nee Arnold), Thomas Watson of Lutterworth, Leicestershire, gent., and Anne Tyrer his wife, John Watson of Lutterworth, esquire, Mary Ann Watson of the same place, spinster, Sydney Gurney of Ripley, Surrey, esquire and Louisa Elizabeth his wife (nee Watson) and Susannah Watson of Lutterworth, spinster (which said Thomas Watson, John Watson, Mary Ann Watson, Louisa Elizabeth Gurney and Susannah Watson are children and devisees under the will of Elizabeth Watson deceased, formerly Elizabeth Arnold), Harriett Arnold of Market Harborough, Leicestershire, spinster and George Wartnaby of the same place, gentleman and Anna Maria his wife (nee Arnold) of the one part and John Gilbert of Shawell, Leicestershire, grazier and Thomas Gilbert of Swinford, Leicestershire, grazier of the other part, conveying Herberts Close in Lilbourne.
John Walker and wife, Thomas Watson and wife, John Watson, Mary Ann Watson, Sydney Gurney and wife, Susannah Watson, Harriett Arnold and George Wartnaby and wife were devised Herberts Close under the terms of the will of Richard Arnold, deceased. He bequeathed Herberts Close to his wife Elizabeth Arnold and Richard Arnold and John Adcock and their heirs, in trust for his son John Arthur Arnold and his heirs, with remainder to his five daughters Mary Arnold, Elizabeth Watson, Dorothy Arnold, Anna Maria Arnold and Harriett Arnold, their heirs and assigns, if his son John Arthur Arnold should die without issue. John Arthur Arnold died May 1844 leaving no children. Dorothy Arnold died 1843 having first bequeathed her estate to her sister Harriett Arnold. Anna Maria Arnold married George Wartnaby. Elizabeth Watson died 1840 having first bequeathed her messuages and lands, whether in posession, reversion or expectancy, to her children Thomas Watson, John Watson, Mary Ann Watson, Louisa Elizabeth Gurney and Susannah Watson.
John Walker and wife, Thomas Watson and wife, John Watson, Mary Ann Watson, Sydney Gurney and wife, Susannah Watson, Harriett Arnold and George Wartnaby and wife convey Herberts Close also known as Great Close to John Gilbert and Thomas Gilbert for £2718 14s. £543 14s 9d of the purchase money is paid to John Walker and Mary his wife and to George Wartnaby and Anna Maria his wife for their one fifth parts of the close. £108 14s 11d is paid each to Thomas Watson, John Watson, Mary Ann Watson, Sydney Gurney and Susannah Watson, for their one fifth of one fifth parts of the close. £1087 9s 6d is paid to Harriett Arnold for her two fifth parts of the close.
Herberts Close contains 35a 1r 12p, was previously in the tenure of Samuel Cook and is now in the tenure of John Cook. Contains a plan of the land being conveyed.
