Description | Ink-and-wash, oval, 4.2"x3.5", framed. This was presumably copied from the portrait in oils now in the possession of Mrs D H Matthews of Victoria, B.C. The engraving used as a frontispiece to Dickens and Stanton, 'An Eigthenteenth-Century Correspondence', is taken from this drawing. It is of course possible that the drawing is taken from the engraving, but this seems unlikely as the engraving appears to be recent. |
