| Description | The albums record in photographs or in line drawings the positions of minor control points (corners of buildings, tops of fence posts etc.) used in a now obsolete method of mapping built-up areas. They were compiled between 1945 and the early 1960's. Each album contains the details of control points in a single National Grid map square (one square kilometre).
The albums are arranged physically in SP numerical order. Their reference numbers are their CRO number followed by their SP number e.g. CR2789/SP0866. Approximate place names have been given.
With regard to some items in the collection a photographic negative is also available and in some cases only a negative is available rather than the album. These are noted in the description at item level. |
